Sutent Patient Assistance Programme
Sutent offers new hope to patients with rare and difficult-to-treat forms of cancer. Sutent belongs to a new class of oral targeted therapies for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and advanced/metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) patients.
Pfizer has developed a Sutent Patient Assistance Programme that aims to make Sutent available to all patients irrespective of their income. It also provides educational material that can help them cope with their illness in daily life.
The Sutent Patient Assistance Programme offers eligible patients either a partial or fully subsidised treatment. This is based on medical as well as socio-economic criteria.
The Sutent Patient Assistance Programme includes a number of NGO partners, including the V Care Foundation, which will manage the fully subsidised process of the programme in India. V Care is responsible for patient education and counselling. It provides education on cancer and its treatment through educational material and other information booklets in partnership with Pfizer. It also provides counselling services to all patients taking Sutent through a toll-free number and face-to-face counselling sessions at all the major cancer hospitals in Mumbai. V Care will provide support through one of its associated NGOs for patients living outside Mumbai.
V Care Foundation (V Care), a registered trust, was founded by Vandana Gupta, along with a group of cancer survivors and caregivers, in Mumbai in 1994. The organisation works to help cancer patients and their families cope with the crisis in their lives.
