Development Operations

Corporate Background

Development Operations (Dev Ops) India, formerly a part of the Clinical Research Division, was established in 1995. The operations started with the hiring of a statistician in 1995. The pace of work picked up in 1998 and this was followed by a substantial growth in terms of activities and resources, especially in data management.

In the early years Dev Ops India worked with teams from Groton, but slowly and steadily increased its span to other Dev Ops sites across the world. The group's assignments have covered initial low-risk activities, often on backlog studies to more sophisticated activities and assignments associated with high profile clinical compounds in late stage of development that have very stringent timelines.

In mid 2003, the Mumbai group was aligned under Dev Ops Europe to emphasize its focus on operations and facilitate more interactions and project engagements from all sites.

As part of PGRD's sourcing strategy, a decision was made in early-2004 to substantially expand the Mumbai operations in scope and size. This included selection of 2 Contract Research Organization (CRO) partners to provide additional resources and augment capacity beyond the expansion that was planned by addition of Pfizer headcount. It required relocation of Dev Ops India from the Head Office of Pfizer India to independent premises. The group has witnessed and managed unprecedented growth in the last 18 months.

A dedicated Informatics group for all technical and applications support has been available since 1997. In 2004, Dev Ops India was assigned a dedicated HR Manager, a Resource and Business Manager and a Manager for SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and Training. In 2006 a dedicated resource for Finance and Global Operations was also assigned.

Currently Dev Ops India works with all Dev Ops locations around the world and provides the following services:

  • Global Clinical Data Services group (Study Start-up, Dictionary Services, Data Acquisition, Safety Data Management, Tables Administration, Clinical Data Management)
  • Statistical analysis, Clinical programming and writing
  • Today the total strength of Dev Ops India is over 100 full time employees, who are supported by over 300 Functional Service Provider staff.
