Pfizer India has been at the forefront of interactions with the government on policy reforms. We also have an active presence in most industry fora, where we contribute to the agenda for dialogue with the government. Our senior executives hold key positions of responsibility in these associations and their expert committees.
Our primary focus has been on lobbying for product patents and data exclusivity. Towards this, we contribute directly to the government's efforts in drafting changes, besides working with other organizations in influencing public perception.
We are engaged in an initiative for reaching out to a large number of parliamentarians, with the objective of increasing their awareness on IP issues, and eventually gaining their support for positive legislation.
On other government related issues, we work closely with other divisions to mitigate the impact of the price control regime. We also work with the Medical and Regulatory functions to effect desired changes in the regulatory laws, particularly with regard to Data Protection.

Last year, Pfizer India launched a mass media campaign to enhance its public visibility and image. This campaign, which portrayed Pfizer as an "Indian" company, was well received by audiences. We have also received a fair amount of positive media coverage, both in print as well as television.

Philanthropy
We have associated with several philanthropic projects, along with leading organizations such as HelpAge and Arparna Trust. Our projects include a 'Mother and Child' anaemia eradication program. We funded a project called 'Naee Nigah', or New Vision, involving cataract operations for over 7500 elderly patients last year. We are supporting another 2500 such surgeries this year. The other causes we support are in the areas of multiple sclerosis, cancer, and healthcare for destitute children. In 2002, Pfizer India received recognition with the Corporate Social Responsiveness Award from FICCI - SEDF.
